The In-Between
By Susan Mardele
Waiting is a talent worth cultivating.
It’s not a popular tune,
But a fruitful one
if, hands clapped on ears,
Singing, la, la, la, we ignore
urgent calls to premature action.
There is a time for all things.
The move that couldn’t happen yesterday,
falls in place today.
The days of solitude that seem
never to end,
Become the joy of warm companionship
in due time.
The dragging, scorching summer
ultimately breaks into the easy breath of fall.
There are gifts in the waiting,
quiet days, time to ponder.
It’s more difficult to look inside
during times of action.
But memory, kind memory
captures only a sequence of events,
Forgetting the unwanted cousin…
the in-between.
